Project Designer - Screw Compression & Refrigeration
Summary
Project Designer - Screw Compression & Refrigeration is an experienced Project Designer with background in the design of oil & gas skid mounted process and refrigeration equipment, ASME coded pressure vessels, structural steel skids, and associated structural steel assemblies.
Principle Responsibilities and Duties
Primary Responsibilities:
- Fully proficient project designer that creates mechanical designs for assemblies, sub-assemblies, or systems configurations using CADWorx; compiles bills of materials; releases and updates drawings
- Generates complex 2D and 3D drawings of Refrigeration Packages, Dew Point Plants, Screw Compression Packages, and related components with minimal supervision from design engineer.
- Supports the department by studying engineering P&IDs, specifications and supporting documents in order to design, detail, document and verify mechanical assemblies, sub-assemblies, or systems configurations.
- Prepares drawing material components for data input into MRP system.
- Capable of acquiring measurements and completing as-built drawings for finished products.
- Ensures quality of drawings and functionality of equipment; tests and analyzes results; performs various calculations, such as weights and center of gravity of materials, frequently using charts and tables; analyzes the effect of proposed changes for proper fit and/or interference problems; recommending possible solutions or alternate construction; modifies drawings as requested; confers with engineers to resolve issues; adheres to company policies and procedures.
- Works directly with application engineers, project engineers, purchasing, fabrication shop, outside fabricators, and assembly shop to coordinate with project designs.
- Must comply with all applicable safety and environmental policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- When needed, work directly with project engineers, purchasing, fabrication shop and outside fabricators when issues arise to keep projects moving forward.
- Address problems with project deliveries (as needed) with internal customers.
- Initiate new creative ideas, methods or “looks” for our designs to make them more cost effective, easier to build and to better meet the needs of the customer.
- Implementation and supervising of design guidelines, as well as making sure these guidelines are understood and incorporated into projects.
- Obtaining feedback from our internal and external customers. Implementing this feedback back into our designs for improvements.
- Recommend training as appropriate and assisting in training of other designers.
Qualifications
- Five (or more) years designing skid mounted oil & gas packages with intimate experience of screw compression and refrigeration equipment.
- Proficient using AutoCAD and CADWorx Plant.
- Proficient with 3-D CAD design. Ability to visualize in three dimensions.
- Thorough knowledge of drafting standards, detailing, and dimensioning of various required drawings, P&ID's, and AutoCAD software.
- Experience with design of pressure vessels, skid mounted packages and structural design.
- Strong creative ability to design and develop mechanical equipment.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize tasks.
- Excellent drafting practices
- Good organizational and planning skills
- Coordinate with others to accomplish objectives
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions
- Proficient using complete Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and PC skills.
- Self-motivated, ability to work under general supervision, close attention to detail.
- Provide clear and concise verbal and written communications.
- Must be able to work under pressure and work with the team in developing improved work processes.
- Overtime as required.
