Paint Helper

Summary

The Painter Helper is responsible for preparing, priming and painting parts on our units with the supervision of a qualified painter. Additional responsibilities may include, sandblasting, general housekeeping and performing a variety of projects assigned.

Principle Responsibilities and Duties

  • Prepare skid mounts by washing and treating surfaces and sand rough spots to ensure finishes will adhere properly.
  • Ability to read paint specifications and understand them and other technical documents such as paint mixing procedures as required by the job of the Industrial Painter.
  • Cover surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting.
  • Select and mix coating additives to thin or promote drying and adhesion.
  • Fill cracks, holes and joints with caulk, plaster or other fillers using putty knives.
  • Uses high air-pressure sandblasting equipment, chemical application, chipping hammer, power tools and other abrasives to remove rust, grease, dirt, concrete and old paint prior to painting application.
  • Apply primers or sealers to prepare surfaces, such as metal, piping, fixtures, structures and equipment for finish coats. 
  • Disassembles paint and sandblasting equipment and cleans equipment, using solvent, wire brushes and dry cloth.
  • Selects paint according to company color scheme and specifications.
  • Apply paint, stain, varnish, enamel and other finishes to heavy equipment using brushes, spray guns, sandblasting equipment or rollers. May use epoxy, latex or enamel coatings.
  • Mix and match colors of paint, stain, or varnish with oil and thinning and drying additives in order to obtain desired colors and consistencies.
  • Respiratory protection is common and required in many applications.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
  • Perform other duties as required. 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED preferred. 
  • Minimum of 1 - 2 years of relevant experience in an industrial environment desired.
  • Forklift operator experience preferred. 
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation. 
  • Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within a particular field. 
  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  • Must be able to define surface preparation and coating systems to be applied.
  • Must know how to use a paint gun and pot.
  • Must know how to mix paint (no runs, miss spots, sags or drips).
  • Work under direct supervision.

Physical Requirements

Industrial environment. Many tasks have high degrees of time sensitivity.
