Intern- Procurement

Summary

The Procurement Intern will work closely with the Procurement and Supply Chain teams to assist in sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing materials, equipment, and services required for gas compression projects. This role will provide hands-on experience in the energy sector's procurement processes, supplier management, and the execution of contracts, ensuring cost-effective and timely procurement.

The successful candidate will develop a strong understanding of supply chain management in the gas compression industry while working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Principle Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist in Sourcing and Supplier Management
  • Support the procurement team in identifying and evaluating suppliers for materials, parts, and services.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating supplier databases, ensuring all information is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Help build and maintain relationships with key vendors and suppliers to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Participate in supplier qualification processes to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Purchase Order (PO) and Procurement Documentation
  • Create and manage Purchase Orders (POs) using Enerflex's procurement system (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or other ERP systems).
  • Assist in monitoring the status of POs and expedite orders when necessary.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of procurement documents, including contracts, invoices, and delivery schedules.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams (engineering, operations) to resolve discrepancies in orders, shipments, or invoicing.
  • Cost and Inventory Management
  • Assist in analyzing supplier pricing and market trends to support cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Help manage inventory levels by monitoring stock availability, lead times, and delivery schedules.
  • Collaborate with the warehouse and logistics team to ensure accurate inventory tracking and timely deliveries.
  • Support in preparing cost comparison analyses and making recommendations for supplier selection.
  • Cross-functional Team Collaboration
  • Work with engineering, project management, and operations teams to understand material requirements for gas compression projects.
  • Participate in meetings with internal stakeholders to communicate procurement timelines, potential delays, or issues with suppliers.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to ensure accurate payment processing and resolve any billing discrepancies.
  • Process Improvement and Reporting
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for process improvement in procurement workflows and recommend solutions to enhance efficiency.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports on procurement activities, supplier performance, and key KPIs (e.g., delivery timelines, cost savings, etc.).
  • Assist in maintaining procurement policies, procedures, and documentation to ensure compliance with company standards and industry regulations.
  • Compliance and Risk Management
  • Ensure all procurement activities adhere to Enerflex’s procurement policies, safety standards, and industry regulations.
  • Assist in tracking supplier performance to mitigate risks related to late deliveries, quality issues, or non-compliance.
  • Participate in risk assessments related to procurement activities, including financial, operational, and environmental risks.
  • Administrative Support
  • Perform other administrative tasks as assigned by the Procurement Manager, such as filing, document control, or meeting coordination.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining records of contracts, purchase agreements, and supplier communications.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years of college coursework completed in a business, management information  systems, or related field.  
  • Rising Junior or Senior in an undergraduate program
  • Minimum 3.2 GPA 
  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in procurement, supply chain, or operations within the energy sector.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 

Physical Requirements

Fast-paced general office environment. Many tasks have high degrees of time sensitivity.
