Income Tax Compliance Specialist
Summary
Enerflex is seeking an experienced Corporate Income Tax Compliance Specialist to oversee tax compliance across the U.S. and Canada based in Houston, TX.
The Income Tax Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with all U.S. and Canadian income tax laws and regulations. This role oversees the preparation, review, and filing of corporate tax returns for both jurisdictions, working closely with internal finance teams and external advisors to ensure accuracy and timely submissions. In addition, the position provides support for structuring activities by assessing the tax compliance implications of business transactions and assisting with the registration of new business initiatives. The role requires strong technical knowledge of federal and multi-state tax compliance, solid project management skills, and the ability to clearly communicate complex tax matters to both financial and non-financial stakeholders. The individual will also collaborate across departments to ensure tax considerations are integrated into planning and execution phases, while providing guidance to regional finance teams across Enerflex’s operating regions and supporting broader structuring initiatives. Principle Responsibilities and Duties
- Oversee and ensure compliance with all U.S. and Canadian income tax laws and regulations, including the preparation, review, and filing of corporate tax returns.
- Strong knowledge and experience regarding the Canadian and U.S. treatment for the taxation of foreign affiliates.
- Provide administrative guidance and support to regional finance teams and coordinate with internal and external advisors to maintain accuracy and timeliness in tax filings.
- Provide guidance to standardize tax compliance processes and audit defense.
- Support Tax Provision as needed
- Create and implement standardized policies and procedures
- Analyze tax implications of business transactions and support structuring and restructuring activities, ensuring all tax compliance considerations are addressed.
- Lead the implementation and effective use of tax compliance software to streamline processes and maintain compliance.
- Monitor and communicate changes in U.S. and Canadian tax regulations, assess their impact on the organization, and advise stakeholders accordingly.
- Collaborate with various departments to communicate complex tax matters in a clear manner to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Support due diligence for mergers and acquisitions and ensure compliance with all relevant reporting deadlines and requirements.
Qualifications
- Ability to assimilate complicated information into short briefs for ease of understanding.
- Extensive knowledge of Canadian and U.S. tax principles.
- Minimum 6 years of experience working in a public accounting firm or a multinational company; experience in a Big 4 Firm would be advantageous.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; Master’s degree advantageous.
- CPA designation required.
- Exceptional analytical skills; ability to solve complex problems.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong collaborative attitude and the skills and ability to work with diverse groups of internal clients.
- Comfortable working in an international and multicultural environment. Comfortable working across multiple time-zones depending on project activity
- Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
