Electrical Engineer
Summary
Responsible for designs, develops, and delivers engineering, including system planning and studies, procurement, construction solution for low voltage and medium voltage projects, according to the requirements as specified by the customer and the project manager as related to natural gas processing.
Expanded scope includes on-site power generation and mission-critical electrical infrastructure to supply data centers (gas engine plants, MV/LV distribution, UPS/battery energy storage, generator paralleling & synchronization, and N+1 / 2N redundancy strategies).
The Electrical Engineer is required to work within a multi-discipline team to develop efficient and reliable electrical design packages for the low voltage and medium voltage substations.
Principle Responsibilities and Duties
Engineering Leadership & Project Execution
Act as Electrical Engineering Lead and Owner’s Engineer, accountable for technical quality, system performance, and compliance.
Develop and maintain the Electrical Design Basis, philosophies, and technical narratives for data center power generation projects.
Lead multi-discipline technical coordination to ensure electrical, mechanical, controls, and process systems are fully integrated.
Serve as the primary technical interface with clients, OEMs, utilities, and EPC subcontractors.
Power Generation & Data Center Infrastructure
Lead the design and integration of gas engine generator plants, including:
Generator sizing and load-step performance
Paralleling and synchronization schemes
Black-start philosophy and islanded operation
Utility interconnection and microgrid concepts
Define and validate redundancy and availability architectures (N, N+1, 2N), ensuring maintainability and fault isolation.
Integrate on-site generation with UPS systems, ATS/STS, PDUs, RPPs, and critical IT loads.
Electrical Design & Studies
Oversee and review:
One-line diagrams and protection philosophies
Cable sizing, routing, and raceway design
Short circuit, coordination, arc flash, grounding, lightning, harmonics, and load flow studies (ETAP or equivalent)
Ensure selective coordination and maintenance bypass strategies across generation, UPS, and distribution systems.
Validate compliance with NEC, NFPA 70/70E/110, IEEE, ANSI, IEC, and applicable utility standards.
Procurement & Vendor Management
Prepare and review technical specifications, data sheets, and scopes of work for electrical equipment and systems.Lead technical bid evaluations and vendor clarifications for generators, switchgear, UPS, transformers, and protection systems.
Support procurement by identifying technical risks, long-lead items, and constructability concerns.
Construction & Commissioning Support
Provide engineering support during construction, including RFIs, site inspections, and design clarifications.
Support commissioning and startup activities, including:
Factory and site acceptance tests (FAT/SAT)
Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
Load bank testing and generator paralleling tests
Support energization, turnover documentation, and as-built verification.
Reliability, Risk & Performance
Perform and/or review failure mode and operational scenario analyses (loss of utility, generator failure, UPS bypass, maintenance modes).
Ensure power quality, transient response, and dynamic performance meet data center operational requirements.
Proactively identify and mitigate technical risks affecting availability, safety, cost, or schedule.
Qualifications
Education & Credentials
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (required)
Professional Engineer (PE) license desirable but not required
Experience
Minimum 8–10 years of electrical engineering experience, preferably in:
Oil & Gas facilities with on-site generation, and/or
Data centers or mission-critical infrastructure
Demonstrated experience leading electrical scope on complex, multi-disciplined projects
Hands-on exposure to gensets, paralleling switchgear, UPS systems, ATS/STS, and BESS preferred
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of power systems, protection, and MV/LV distribution
Experience with ETAP or equivalent power system analysis tools
Familiarity with grid interconnection requirements and utility coordination
Working knowledge of instrumentation, controls, and SCADA integration
Soft Skills
Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Client-focused mindset with ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
Self-motivated, structured, and capable of managing multiple priorities
Languages
Bilingual English / Spanish (required)
Portuguese desirable
