Controls Engineer, Retrofit
Summary
The Control Engineer, Retrofit, shall develop Automation solutions, and provide support for Enerflex’s Retrofit group, from initial design to implementation and commissioning of our package solutions and plant facilities for oil and gas industry. Work must be performed consistently with company mission and values and adherence to company policies and procedures.
Principle Responsibilities and Duties
- Review or generate the SOW (Statement of Work) created for the project and, as necessary, review Turn-in data created by Enerflex Applications group including customer specification.
- Participate in the project Internal Kick Off Meeting.
- Participate in Customer Kick Off Meeting and HAZOP meeting -if necessary-.
- Provide Squad Check for project P&IDs considering SOW and Turn-in data.
- Support Control Designer in the development of wiring diagrams for Control Panel and/or Junction Boxes as per project proposal, customer specification, and industry standards.
- Review or Approve project wiring diagrams for Control Panels and/or Junction Boxes working with Control Designer and Project Engineer to meet project documentation delivery commitments.
- Release project Bill of Material (BOM) and Control Panel or Junction Box to manufacturer and support fabrication questions/comments.
- Support Project Engineer on Change Order costing and scope.
- Create internal IO Tool Kit (Ranges, Alarms and Trip Setpoints) file as a base for the project execution -if necessary-.
- Work closely with Project Engineer to create the Sequence of Operation file.
- Support Project Engineer in the development of Cause & Effect and Control Narrative.
- Develop PLC (PAC) / HMI programs using Enerflex programming standards, structure, and proprietary blocks / faceplates.
- Create Network Address log for customer remote communications.
- Support our Production electrical team at our shop by reviewing project scope, standards, and quality of work.
- Responsible for PLC (PAC) / HMI programs test.
- Support internal Control Panel Factory Acceptance Test as needed.
- Perform Factory Acceptance Test in our systems with or without customer witness, generate and maintain FAT documentation including project punch list.
- Responsible for generating and accuracy of final project documentation related to Automation.
- Technical Support for Retrofit group.
- Provide on-site support for commissioning and start-up as needed.
- Contribute in Enerflex proprietary tools and software development for Automation solutions.
- Network and develop relationships with customers to further the Enerflex brand reputation and promise.
- Model and champion Enerflex core values in ways that center team culture on these values.
- Abide by and promote the Enerflex HSE policy.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical/Instrumentation/Controls discipline or equivalent experience.
- 5 to 10 yrs. experience in design of various control systems with Allen Bradley hardware; other brands are a plus.
- 5 to 10 yrs. experience in PLC (PAC)/HMI programming on Allen Bradley, RSLogix 5000 or RSLogix Studio version 24 and higher, and FactoryTalk View Studio 10 and higher. Other PLC (PAC)/HMI brands like GE, Schneider Group (Modicon and Telemechanique) and Siemens are a plus. Intellution and Wonderware experience also a plus.
- Knowledge of various electrical components including MCCs, VFD’s, electrical switchgear and motors.
- Knowledge of NEC code for hazardous location is a plus.
- Knowledge of IEC code is a plus.
- Good analytical, engineering problem solving skills.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and written.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office application software.
- Travel will be required, up to 35%.
- Knowledge in AutoCAD Electrical is a plus.

- Fast‐paced general office environment. Many tasks have high degrees of time sensitivity.
- Domestic and international travel is possible on occasion.
- May be exposed to confidential information.
- Occasionally required to work non‐standard hours including evenings and weekends.
