Senior Field Service Technician / Electrician

Summary

The Senior Field Service Technician/Electrician will be responsible for oversight and or the physical completion of electrical wiring, electronic installation, testing, alteration, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, motor, and related equipment on the ECC rental fleet across all areas of operation.  The electrician will assist with development, review, and implementation of electrical standards for operation and maintenance across all branches of the business.  The Senior Electrician will assist with the review of plant wide electrical installation drawings, MCC design (low/high voltage and VFD equipment), instrument data sheets and specifications, support instrumentation selection, to assist with ensuring full compliance with recognized industry standards, safety standards, and various industry or client specifications. The Senior Electrician will also assist in the technical development or review of assigned project P&IDs and provide support to the procurement team to assist with generating RFQ and PO for rental packages including MCCs and fully support bid process along with the operations team.  This work along with any other required data must be accomplished whilst complying with the company standards, safety policies and procedures and any applicable electrical standard that may apply.  

Principle Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide electrical knowledge support for ECC and different Application groups.
  • Capable of or helping to create company standards for electrical work, including but not limited to all aspects of three-phase low and medium voltage power, transformers, low and medium voltage switchgear, Motor Control Centers, Variable Frequency Drives, compressor control panels, electric motors, grounding, and heat trace.
  • Assist with the creation of electrical specifications for rental compression packages based on project requirements, industry standards and best practices to meet industry requirements and promote ECC rental compressors as an industry standard. 
  • Examine malfunctioning electrical equipment to diagnose the issue, assist with determining the method of repair and determine if equipment operations and/ or maintenance need to be adjusted to eliminate reoccurrence of any issues found.  This includes but is not limited to troubleshooting motors, generators, transformers, variable frequency drives, power distribution centers and similar electrical equipment.
  • Submit accurate field service reports, expense reports, and other necessary paperwork daily/weekly/monthly.
  • Assist with and define scope and cost estimate for electrical equipment / labor on company projects.
  • Attend certain internal and external meetings (kick off, coordination, HAZOP, etc.).
  • Coordinate with internal team members to assist with the procurement of: Transformers, Low and Medium Voltage Switchgear, Motor Control Center, Variable Frequency Drive, Soft Start Drive, Prefabricated Electrical Substations, Power and instrument Cables, UPS System, Heat Trace power distribution circuits and panels, etc.
  • Oversee or be responsible for making final electrical connections (including voltages up to 4160) after installation of conduit to rental equipment.
  • Design layout and installation of electrical wiring based on job specifications.
  • Ability to read and understand detail drawings such as: P&ID’s, Area Classification drawings, grounding layout and grounding detail, plant wide lighting layout and detail, cable tray layout, cable and conduit schedule, control schematics of third-party packages and instrument installation details as minimum.
  • Work with internal or external I&E Control department to develop a control strategy for ECC packages, including the use of Smart MCC, wireless technology and third-party equipment.
  • Visits suppliers of third-party equipment as needed to coordinate or participate in Factory Acceptance Test to ensure that the provided system functions as per specifications. Where necessary, work with the supplier/contractor concerned to rectify the technical issues and making sure that they comply with the specifications and on time delivery requirements.

Qualifications

  • 5 years practical electrical (commercial/industrial) experience.  Current electrical license for Texas, Oklahoma, or New Mexico a plus but not a requirement. 
  • Must have the ability to read and work from blueprints, engineering drawings, P&ID, work orders or service request.
  • Strong math skills are required, as it will be needed to take and measurements and work with electrical formulas.
  • Must be able to work with live voltages (up to 600 volts) with proper PPE and in accordance with any applicable work policies and/or permits.
  • Prior experience performing maintenance operations such as repairing and maintaining all electrical systems while maintaining NEC (National Electrical Code) and NFPA (National Fire Protections Association) compliance.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable industry electrical codes such as NEC 500, NFPA-70E, NFPA-496, NFPA-497, etc.
  • Experience in EPC in Oil and Gas industry or specific to Gas Plants and Compressor Stations is a plus.
  • Commissioning and start-up experience is a plus.
  • Good organization and planning skills.
  • Self –motivated, ability to work under general supervision.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to work with the team in developing improved work processes for all department.
  • Overtime as required.

 

Travel to site up to 50 % or more of year may be require.
