Project Manager
Summary
Enerflex is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Outsourcing Project Manager to play a crucial role in optimizing our manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Manger of Project Management, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the outsourcing of fabrication activities to external subcontractors. The Outsourcing Project Manager leads the end‑to‑end planning, RFQ , selection, and execution of outsourced fabrication scopes to qualified subcontractors, ensuring schedule, quality, cost, and contractual outcomes that protect and advance Enerflex’s interests. Building on a strong manufacturing and quality background, the outsourcing project manager drives rigorous bid evaluation, cost control, supplier performance, and proactive risk management while integrating closely with Enerflex Engineering, Quality, HSE, Logistics, and Project Controls.
This role will focus on leveraging external partners manufacturing capacity to alleviate workload within the main factory, ensuring timely delivery, quality standards, and cost-effectiveness of projects. The project manager will act as the primary point of contact between Enerflex and its fabrication subcontractors, ensuring seamless communication and efficient execution of outsourced projects. The project manager will work hand in had with outsourcing coordinators , including delegation of work fronts to allow various tasks to progress at the same time.
Our ideal candidate would have strong industrial manufacturing and QC experience, vendor management and computer skills, with an ability to prioritize key work and multi-task where needed. We are looking for an energetic team player with the ability to work with minimal supervision and is self-motivated.
Principle Responsibilities and Duties
- Collaborate with the in-house manufacturing team to evaluate make‑vs‑buy analysis, capacity leveling with the Calgary manufacturing facility, and selection of subcontractors from approved/critical vendor lists.
- Quotation and Negotiation: Develop and issue RFQs (Requests for Quotation) to potential subcontractors, analyze bids, negotiate pricing and terms, and make recommendations for vendor selection.
- Order Placement and Management: facilitate the creation of purchase orders to selected subcontractors, ensuring accurate specifications, quantities, delivery schedules, and contractual agreements are in place.
- Liaison and Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for fabrication subcontractors, fostering strong working relationships and ensuring clear and consistent communication regarding project requirements, timelines, and any potential issues.
- Technical Document Management: Coordinate with engineering, project coordinators and subcontractors to provide them with all necessary technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and quality requirements, ensuring they have the information needed for successful fabrication.
- Progress Monitoring and Tracking: Actively monitor the progress of outsourced fabrication projects, track key milestones, and proactively identify and address any potential delays or roadblocks.
- Quality Assurance Coordination: Collaborate with Enerflex's Quality Control department to ensure that outsourced fabrication meets Enerflex's stringent quality standards. Facilitate inspections and address any non-conformances.
- Material Coordination for Outsourced Projects: Coordinate the timely delivery of Enerflex-supplied materials to subcontractors, ensuring material availability aligns with fabrication schedules.
- Logistics and Shipping Coordination: Work closely with the Logistics department to arrange for the efficient and cost-effective transportation of fabricated components from subcontractors to Enerflex's facility.
- Change management: Negotiate and administer changes to subcontracts, ensuring robust positions on delivery, quality, warranty, and delays. Manage change orders, back‑charges, and disputes.
- Performance Evaluation: Track and evaluate the performance of fabrication subcontractors based on key metrics such as quality, delivery, cost, and responsiveness. Provide feedback and identify areas for improvement.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all outsourcing activities, including vendor information, quotes, purchase orders, delivery schedules, and performance data. Prepare regular reports on outsourcing activities and performance.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements in the outsourcing process to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall outcomes.
- Compliance: Ensure all outsourcing activities comply with Enerflex's policies, procedures, and relevant regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in procurement, supply chain, or manufacturing coordination, with specific experience in outsourcing or subcontracting, preferably within a industrial manufacturing environment, including shop‑floor exposure and direct involvement with outsourced fabrication.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, fabrication techniques, and quality control principles is an asset
- Diploma or Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, or Business; PMP or equivalent asset. (Relevant experience may substitute for formal education.)
- Demonstrated ability in bid reviews (TBE/CBE), contract negotiation, change management, and claims/back‑charges.
- Strong working knowledge of QC systems, ITPs, welding processes, and typical codes/standards; proven experience closing NCRs and managing corrective actions.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with external vendors. Excellent communication (both written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in using order tracking ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to interpret technical fabrication and P&ID drawings and specifications is an asset.
