Payroll Coordinator

Summary

Reporting to the Payroll Supervisor, the Payroll Coordinator is responsible for playing a key role in the payroll function and ensuring compliance with all applicable federal and provincial legislation in Canada, as well as company policies. Payroll responsibilities will include payroll processing, payroll reporting, statutory deductions compliance, payroll audit support, journal entries and account reconciliations.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist in the preparation and processing of full cycle Canadian payroll for bi-weekly, monthly and quarterly payroll runs, with all applicable payroll related adjustments.
  • Collaborate with timekeepers in each business unit to ensure all time worked and exception time is entered accurately within payroll cutoff timelines.
  • Maintain the accuracy and completeness of all payroll related data within SAP for all time and attendance and personnel transactions such as new hires, terminations, leaves of absence, benefits deductions and garnishments.
  • Prepare statutory government reporting to meet all deadlines.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts, prepare payroll journal entries and request intercompany billings.
  • Assist year-end reporting including balancing T4 & RL-1 slips and performing year-end adjustments
  • Document, update and maintain workflow and payroll process and procedures; offer suggestions for process improvements.
  • Address and resolve employee payroll concerns and liaise as appropriate with Finance, HR, and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct testing pertaining to system changes.
  • Assist and back up other members of the payroll team as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of payroll experience with an automated payroll system.
  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) certification with NPI member is required.
  • Impeccable attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
  • Team player willing to learn and adapt to work requirements as needed.
  • Solid knowledge of Canadian legislation as it relates to payroll.
  • Experience with SAP Payroll testing and reporting and Workforce Solutions is desirable.
  • Takes initiative with strong problem-solving and analytical skills and the ability to assess work and determine next steps with minimal support.
