Engineer, Instrumentation Specialist

Summary

As part of the Electrical & Controls Engineering group in Calgary, the Instrumentation Specialist plays a key role in the selection, design, and documentation of instrumentation for Enerflex-fabricated compression and gas processing packages.

 

The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert across a wide range of instrumentation, acting as a critical liaison between the Process Engineering and Controls Engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of instrumentation within each package. Strong, in-depth knowledge of flow meters, flow computers, and gas analyzer systems is considered a strong asset.

 

This role also supports low-voltage applications, including lighting, electrical heat trace design, and building electrical systems. Experience in these areas is an asset; however, training will be provided as needed.

 

When not directly supporting instrumentation deliverables, the Instrumentation Specialist will collaborate with the Controls team on other package deliverables, including, but not limited to, shutdown keys, control narratives, and RATS lists.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Work with vendors to select and order correct instrumentation for applications.
  • Produce instrumentation specific documentation (Data Sheets, Instrument Index, Setpoint Lists and Hook up drawings).
  • Work with the process engineering team to ensure selected instrumentation meets customer specification and approved manufacturer list.
  • Ensure the instrumentation ordered is accurately shown on P&ID’s with complete control loops.
  • Create configuration sheets, and support shop and field technicians with configuration of instrumentation.
  • Stay up to date on new technologies and use this knowledge to improve Enerflex packaging standards.
  • Provide technical support to shop and field technicians as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of construction drawings and specifications in conjunction with our in-house mechanical, architectural, and civil/structural design teams.
  • Prepare construction scope of work documents for the purpose of obtaining proposals/bids from contractors.
  • Inspect field work to verify compliance with “Issued for Construction Drawings”.
  • Assist in the commissioning of instrumentation in the field if required.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in instrumentation related role.
  • Strong working knowledge and application of instrumentation in hazardous locations specifically in the oil and gas sector.
  • In depth knowledge of flow meter and gas analyzer technology.
  • Instrumentation Technologist Diploma, or Journeyman Instrumentation Technician an asset.
  • Experience with ROC flow computers an asset.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley control systems an asset.
  • Experience in Equipment condition monitoring systems such as Bently Nevada and Rockwell XM an asset.
