Applications Engineer

Summary

The Applications Engineer plays a critical role in driving technically sound, commercially competitive solutions aligned with customer requirements. This position owns the front-end engineering, technical evaluation, estimating, and preparation of proposals in response to RFIs, RFQs, and RFPs across the Electric Power portfolio.

 

Working closely with Sales, Engineering, Procurement, Execution, and external partners, the role ensures proposals are accurate, complete, cost-effective, and delivered on time while balancing technical integrity, risk, and commercial objectives.

 

This position is based out of the Enerflex Southeast Calgary facility. Remote arrangements may be considered.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead technical evaluation, front-end engineering, and costing activities for RFIs, RFQs, and RFPs.
  • Participate in bid strategy and review meetings in close collaboration with Sales.
  • Evaluate equipment and system solutions across the Electric Power portfolio including packaged and turnkey offerings.
  • Manage the proposal process from opportunity qualification through final submission and award.
  • Provide technical support to Sales through bid clarification meetings, pre-bid technical discussion, and negotiations.
  • Conduct and/or oversee equipment selection, design input, and cost estimating including coordination with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Manage supplier inputs and ensure adequate evaluation of request for quotation requirements and specifications.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders (engineering, production, procurement) to support proposal development and encourage a collaborative, team culture.
  • Package and deliver complete, high-quality proposal submissions that meet customer requirements and timelines.
  • Ensure technical and commercial accuracy, scope clarity, completeness and consistency across all bids.
  • Perform peer reviews of estimates and proposal deliverables to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Interface directly and indirectly with customers to review, present, and clarify proposal content.
  • Support the development and maintenance of proposal tools, templates, and procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ensure a smooth and efficient transition of information to the project execution team upon award
  • Position may require some travel

Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years relevant experience in the electric power industry, preferably with design and manufacturing of electric power equipment
  • Engineering degree or equivalent qualifications and experience (ex. Engineering Technologist)
  • Experience with SAP is an asset
  • Manufacturing or estimating experience is an asset
  • Experience with natural gas engines and fabrication of electric power equipment
  • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and relationship building skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work to meet tight deadlines
  • Proficient with MS Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to achieve excellent performance in individual and team environments
  • Demonstrated ability for on-time performance in a fast-paced work environment
