Tax Specialist

Summary

The Tax Specialist will manage all aspects of tax compliance and advisory for upstream and downstream oil & gas operations in Thailand. This includes handling Petroleum Income Tax (PITA), Corporate Income Tax (CIT), VAT, WHT, and other sector-specific obligations. The role ensures full compliance with Thai tax laws and supports strategic tax planning to optimize fiscal efficiency and mitigate risks.

Key Responsibilities

Petroleum Tax Compliance

  • Prepare and file Petroleum Income Tax (PITA) returns for concession and production sharing contracts.
  • Calculate and report royalties payable to the Thai government.
  • Ensure proper treatment of capital expenditures, depreciation, and non-deductible items (e.g., interest expenses unless capitalized) 
  • Maintain dual reporting where applicable (PITA and CIT).

 

Corporate & Indirect Tax

  • Manage VAT submissions, including reverse charge mechanisms and input VAT tracking.
  • Prepare and submit Withholding Tax (WHT) returns, applying treaty benefits under Double Tax Agreements (DTA) 
  • Handle Specific Business Tax (SBT) and Stamp Duty (SD) obligations.

 

Transfer Pricing & International Tax

  • Prepare Transfer Pricing Disclosure Forms and documentation in line with Thai Revenue Department requirements.
  • Monitor intercompany transactions and ensure arm’s length pricing.
  • Support cross-border tax planning and treaty applications.

Tax Advisory & Audit Support

  • Advise internal stakeholders on tax implications of contracts, joint ventures, and asset transfers.
  • Liaise with the Revenue Department during audits and disputes.
  • Conduct tax research and prepare technical memos and presentations.

 

Regulatory Monitoring & Projects

  • Stay updated on changes in Thai tax laws, including carbon tax and BOI incentives 
  • Participate in system upgrades and process improvements related to tax reporting.
  • Support sustainability-related tax initiatives, including renewable energy incentives and carbon reporting.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or Law.
  • CPA or Master’s degree is a plus.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in tax compliance, preferably in the oil & gas or energy sector.
  • Familiarity with PITA, CIT, and international tax frameworks.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication skills in Thai and English.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience with BOI incentives and carbon tax compliance.
  • Exposure to upstream/downstream operations.
  • Knowledge of international reporting standards and functional currency accounting.

Working Conditions

  • Based at Sathorn, Bangkok with occasional travel to field sites or government offices.
  • Standard working hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 17:00 PM.
